I have converted some of these from Japanese to Euro system.

Note you must use Mk4, the Mk3 cannot work in a Z4.

The 18p connectors are available from BMW - refer to the www.realoem.com website, see this page here:
http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?model=BT52&mospid=47797&btnr=61_1280& hg=61&fg=15
You need item #9 (18-pin connector), x 2 connectors
2 x pieces Part 61131383852
Plus you need some pins, about 4 will do, because most wires can be removed from the Jap plug and inserted in the Euro plug:
4 x 61130005197
You will see some wires (power, ground) have to have new pins fitted.

Remember: you also need to join the FM antenna (it loops through the Jap nav, it is used for VICS reception in Japan) once you disconnect the Japanese nav, otherwise you have no more radio reception, (or reduced radio reception). I used a custom-made SMB-SMB coax cable, 100mm long

Also, the Jap GPS antenna connector (type: Fakra) will not fit the Mk4 because it does not have the right locking mechanism. I used another SMB-SMB extension lead, also 100mm long, and used tape on the Fakra-to-SMB connection to secure against vibration.

Do you know how to change the radio from Japan mode to Oceania or European mode to work in Singapore?

If you also have telephone, the phone can be changed as well, if you want.
Hi, I took out the old unit and immediately ran into some problems with the wire assigments. Some of the wires are different in colours between the circuit diagram I downloaded and the ones found in my car.

I can't find the VMR, VMG and VMB wires, Brown/Red, Yellow/Red and Yellow Brown wires for X1313 (Blue Plug) and I don't have the Blue/Yellow and Violet/White wires needed to assemble X1312 (Burgundy Plug).

I took note of the existing 20 Pins plug and pin assigments;
  1. White (from Cable set 1)
  2. Red (from Cable set 1)
  3. Blue
  4. Grey
  5. Not used
  6. Blue/Red
  7. Red (from Cable set 2)
  8. Grey (from Cable set 2)
  9. White/Red/Yellow
  10. Red/Green
  11. Grey (from Cable set 1)
  12. Black (from Cable set 1)
  13. Clear (from Cable set 1)
  14. White (from Cable set 2)
  15. Not used
  16. Blue/Brown
  17. Black (from Cable set 2)
  18. Clear (from Cable set 2)
  19. White/Green
  20. Brown
The picture here will tell a clearer story; I am a bit lost with that 2 thick and black cable at the top of the picture.

Also and if look at this picture you will see 3 Fakra SMB female connectors. Can you tell me how to assign them, I'm lost here too!

In addition to the Navigator, my car also came with TV, CD Changer and Minidisc player.

Thank you.
