Audio System Question

I'm going through a series threads and trying to piece together an answer for changes I'm looking to make to my 2002 x5 3.0 (No NAV, Non-DSP).
  • It's wired for a CD changer, though I don't have one installed
  • I currently have an XM radio installed (GEX-FM903XM) connected to the CD changer wiring using a Blitzsafe connector
  • Given that I have a 2002, my radio isn't satellite ready so I can't control the XM from the steering wheel, nor have radio song displayed on the MID

Here's what I want to do...
  • I want to install an iPod interface
  • I want to keep XM, but I want to be able to control from the steering wheel and have station / song information displayed
  • I'd like to be able to control iPod from steering wheel as well

I understand that I'd have to replace the Business CD with the 2003 or later radio module. I'm also happy to replace the XM radio unit if I have to (though keeping the existing one is preferable). What else do I need and is all this even possible?

Sorry for what may appear to be a noobie type of question. I've got a narrow window to do this modification over the holidays so I want to get my parts list together and order what I need.

Thanks.
