my daughter (sophomore) was having a similar, but a little different problem, and a visit to the teacher by me seems to have cleared things up.
there is no excuse for a high school teacher to be dumping on you, or pushing their views on you. unfortunately, that happens all the time.
i would take a whole different approach, which begins with a joint visit of you, parent, guidance counselor, and teacher (at least down here, the guidance counselor is the one involved - it's not just the teacher). if that doesn't resolve it, then it escalates to principal, and school board beyond that, if need be.
it is definitely worth follow-up. at that age, there is no room for pushing your own agenda on your class.
