Haven't seen the shields on an X5 but, I did see them on a 750i and 550i and, IMO, they take away for the look of the car. If they are the same ones Park Avenue BMW uses, they look like a separate plate between the wheel and the brake rotor.

I assume you want to do something about the brake because it creates filthy wheels. If that is the case, these may keep your wheels clean but, add a different level of uglyness.

I wouldn't recommend them.
