1.5 cm is a fair amount, too much to just remove some of the plastic bracing inside the door? You could cut a 1.5 cm section from the back of the box and glue it back together.

Looking forward to the completed project. I like the simple design, even though I have the means to build the complex version. Pioneer did some interesting engineering to make a 10" woofer work in a small box.
