We ran our CAI on the 323 for 50K without issue (cleaned at 30K). I also run them on the motorcycles too. While I have not done a before/after dyno, the throttle responsiveness is definitely there.

Of course, air quality must be taken into consideration, but if you see an X5 off road for more than a few minutes, take a picture, no one will believe you.
I've used K&N filters in a couple of my cars and I somewhat like them but prefer a CAI instead. Gains with just the filter are fairly minimal, you do notice a slight gain in throttle response however. There have been issues with oil screwing up the MAF which is usually caused from over oiling when users clean and re-oil the filter. Just gotta follow the instructions and only use K&N's kit and you should be ok
