Hey Ryan, how much memory do you have in your MacBook? What programs are you running concurrently while all of this is happening? It might be a good idea to start keeping an eye on your RAM usage (you don't want page outs btw). If you don't already use a widget to manage your resources, try it . My favorite is iStat nano. If your Gmail issue continues after Barry's advice, I would delete the acct. and re-add it.
