I have a screen issue with my first gen iPhone. The top half-inch of the screen is non-responsive. I asked someone at the Apple Store and they said it would cost more to replace than it's worth. They suggested just getting a new 3g iPhone for $199. I think the screen is the most expensive part of the phone, and unfortunately probably a total loss if the screen is gone.
