I set a speed for myself given a variety of factors, and stick to it. The set speed is often a tick higher than the stated limit but not egregious. I will normally stick to 110km/h (68mph) in a 55 zone in central VA. That landed me a ticket. Now, I take a 30 minute detour around that particular county.

Driving 68mph on the Washington Beltway is too slow and the state troopers up there will not care. But certainly not the case elsewhere. I refuse to plod along at walking speed for hours on end. I've driven in 15 states and 3 countries, with never a problem. When my years of college are over and I find a job, I can move out of this state.

All I'm asking for is some advance warning to make a speed adjustment.
In VA, if the LEO see a radar detector they can pull you over, even if you're not doing anything else wrong, issue you a citation and confiscate the unit...it's not worth it with a $400 radar detector when the max reasonable ticket you're going to get is <$200...I never use mine in VA
