Why should my tax money pay for a fire to be put out at your house? Most fires are caused by careless people. If the government uses my tax dollars to pay to put out those fires, isn't that rewarding carelessness?
We could privatize the fire department and eliminate all those lazy government employees who are not productive. When someone needs a fire put out, they can pay for it out of their own pocket. And because the fire department is a private enterprise, they will be able to cut cost and be more productive. Right?
