Having driven that roundabout a number of times the reason why the traffic accident is so low is because everyone has a lot of respect for the traffic and the way it moves around that roundabout. The first time its rather daunting but after that you get used to it. You still hear the odd horn being tooted. 
Have to say I still can't get used to the NJ traffic loops going through neighbourhoods and a couple of lights sometimes to turn around.
 Kaefer on the European vacation reference. I am sure eric idle on his bicycle would be run down on that roundabout a number of times too
