From reading the above links, it seems like there is no 'resetting' required for things like windows and/or moonroof in X5's case.

I replaced my previous Mercedes's battery with Duralast from Autozone and was very happy with the replacement. After battery disconnect, a 'reset' needed to be done for all windows and moonroof, which basically meant rolling down the window, and continue to press the down button for an additional 5 seconds, rolling it up all the way, and keep pressing it up for an additional 5 seconds, repeat for all windows and moonroof too. Also, turn the wheel from all the way left to all the way right.

I know this is a BMW forum... I am just sharing this info so you know there may be some simple resetting needed if you change your battery and some things don't work right. From the above links, it doesn't seem to be though.
