As promised, here is a picture of my right side CCV valve. This picture was taken 6 days after the last time I cleaned it. In the past week, ambient temp was around -10°C. The X5 took my wife to work and back 3 times (60km each way on the highway). It also went on a few assorted trips around town (each time at least 20 minutes of driving in manual mode to get up to operating temp quickly).
