What's not cool? It's not a derogatory term.
According to Webster:
Illegal:
: not according to or authorized by law
: unlawful, illicit ;
also : not sanctioned by official rules (as of a game)
Alien:
1 a
: belonging or relating to another person, place, or thing
: strange
: b
: relating, belonging, or owing allegiance to another country or government
So illegal alien is an accurate description IMO.
