It will also increase gun smuggling. It will put a higher percentage of guns in the hands of criminals. Right now criminals with guns are vastly outnumbered by legal gun owners, the risk of robbing a house with a legal gun owner that will shoot you dead will decrease making crime easier.
You only make it more difficult for honest law abiding people, Criminals don't buy legal guns.
