Thanks for all the advice! My contact at the BMW dealership says the DSP unit 65.12-6 940 977 is about $1800.

The indy is willing to take the part back. I didn't ask about putting back to normal.

I wish I had found you guys earlier. I am an engineer and would have followed your instructions instead of taking it to an indy.

I'll keep you informed as to what the dealership says.
