The part I found most ridiculous about the whole "affordable housing" thing was that in exchange for our government's cooperation and looking the other way, what did the people get? Lower rates on a reasonable loan? No sir. Junky loans which F&F absorbed into a vast neverending hole of junk that required our government to tacitly condone? Yes. If you ask me, even though Dodd et all are to blame (this did happen across what, 3-4 administrations since the early 90s when affordable housing became an agenda item?), they actually got fooled too, because the markers were getting called. Unfortunately they are our government, so we all got fooled, and we get to pay for it.
