JV is on a distinguished road
The Grump is just caught in that time warp we all get caught in. Back in the day, songs had to conceal their true meanings with euphemisms, now you can have 50 Cent saying that he wants to put his magic stick in some groupie's nana and it's ok. Those old Nat King Cole songs and Cole Porter songs were just as much about gettin laid and gettin drunk or high as the songs of today, they just had to be more creative about how they worded it. I would agree that the bar for true talent is set lower these days and the bar for image is set much higher. Let's Get It On, which Marvin Gaye recorded in 1972, became one of the best-known songs about doin the nasty, but Marvin originally penned lyrics about ending the war in 'Nam for that song. I have all 5 demo takes of the song, all lyrics about peace, love and brotherhood, but the exact same music. He improvised new lyrics for it while recording it when he saw a hottie walk into the producer's room on the other side of the glass, so he could get into those drawers. Obviously, the producer and Marvin agreed the last take was the one which went on the album. I seriously doubt any of the popular atrists of today could pull that!
