I wouldn't agree with this statement and I think it's a complete exaggeration.

I wouldn't buy a BMW without CPO personally. As far as aftermarket warranties go, there are quite a few companies providing them and they all have different levels of coverage. My suggestion is to call up the dealer or shop you'll be taking your car in for repair and ask they what they recommend.
