Wayne's World is on a distinguished road
Did the 1st part of the transmission drain and fill this weekend. I haven't gotten the filter yet but drained whatever was in the pan and refilled with the DEX VI. Approx 4 quarts came out. I should be getting the filter tomorrow, so tomorrow night I will do another drain and fill and pop in the new filter. The fluid was BLACK! Looked exactly like Albert's #41 post. So glad I'm doing it. Also drained and filled the front and rear diffs. That fluid wasn't terrible bad but it was on the dark/amber/reddish side, almost like motor oil. The fluid I was putting in (Valvoline SynPower 75w-90) was a light golden color.

So this morning it was noticeable smoother in shifting and in it power delivery. I still feel the shifts a bit but it's much better than it was. Also when I put it into Reverse from a cold start, I get a 'click' sound. I remember having that with my 5 series and after doing a drain and fill, it was gone. So i'm going to use that as my marker for a successful drain and fill in addition to performance.

Need help tho - where are the transfer case drain and fill plugs? Are they 1 on each side of the transfer case? They aren't hex or torx but standard metric bolts. Just want to be sure. I really need to get a manual...
