I routinely hold doors for women at work, maybe one out of 10 says 'thank you'. So I seriously doubt this is a "generational" thing. I say "Thanks, Thank you, Thanks in advance or Sincerely" in every work email I write, rarely are people ever so polite back. PARENTS = IMPORTANT.

I too hold doors for everyone and say thank you, have a good day to those that hold the door for me. Most say thank you. Those that don't are normally young or females. What really gets me are those the don't hold the door for me, which also seems to be the young or females. Sadly, manners and common courtesy have gone out the window. I definitely blame the parents for the young ones but it's also the "me" mentality which seems more prevalent than just a few a years ago.
How about the people that hold up the line in Dunkin Donuts because they are to engrossed in their cell phone conversations to order. They actually put their finger up and tell the person behind the counter to wait....
