Yes you need to do everything through the ipod itself, including volume control if you do not get a dock connector cable (so make sure you get one). It was just a straight input source to the radio designed way before the age of ipods, etc.

Oh WOW volume control too!!?? Thats wild! Doesn't seem worth it if you have to control even the volume from the iPod itself! I've been weighing the options for either this or the DICE, but DICE will be a bit costly since i have digital DSP. Guess I'm gonna have to wait a few weeks to get the DICE after brakes/tires/headlights are done.
