I had this problem..(if the "sound" you're talking about is a squeek) Mine was really hard to turn in low speeds. I tried to spray a lubricant on the bearing of the shaft from the engine bay....... Nothing happened and I still had the squeeky noises. Then I took off the steering wheel and shot a good amount of lube down the hollow shaft. There is a bearing down that I soaked. Some of the lubricant came dripping out on the breake pedal, so I know it got there allright. I then put the steering wheel back and before re-attatching the airbag I lubricated the plastic"spacer ring"....If I remember right, it is there to turn your blinker off when you straighten the wheel coming out from a turn.
I could not believe how smooth and noise free the steering became. Like a brand new again.
This is a 10 minute job and you can try it first before taking your power steering pump appart.
Look up a thread how to approach the airbag removal before you start though!
Good Luck!
