Night Mode for the Mk4 and mk3

Hi All,

Seeing manormachines (Xoutpost.com - View Single Post - POISoN) excellent post last week has spurred me on to have a go at creating a Night mode for the mk3 and mk4 OEM satnav units.

The image will include (depending on your setup and whether you have a mk3 or mk4);

1: A night mode, for when driving at night, it will look similar to the night mode on the TomTom, (all the ground bar the roads will be black and it will be subdued brightness).

2: A updated colour scheme, instead of the Orange cursors and text it will be updated to an LED/electric blue effect, (I'm impressed with my test results so far).

3: Modding the menu text to more understandable meanings, I thing some of the text looses something in the translations from German to English.

4: POI Alerts, with on screen camera icon, custom sound and icon. (mk4 only)

5: A menu option for turning on/off the POI audio alerts (mk4 only), (this involves loosing the languages field in the menu, but hey who uses that anyway, right). (mk4 only)

Done so far; (mk4).

1: Night mode working on Splitscreen.(col_set 2)
2: Night mode working on Widesreen.(col_set 2)
3: New colour layout working on Splitscreen.(col_set 2)
4: New colour layout working on Widescreen.(col_set 2)

5: New colour layout in working on Splitscreen.(col_set 1)

6: New text layout working and all modes.
7: POI Alerts with onscreen display, custom sound and icon in all modes
8: POI warning alerts on/off working in all modes.

9: All current mods will still work, splash, sky and pointers etc...

Problems;

1: New colour layout not working on widescreen.(col_set 1)

For some reason the colour remaps will not take in the rom_col (the widescreen/colset 1) part of the navboot file, if anyone has any hits or suggestions then please let me know as I would like to extend the new colour scheme into both night and day mode.

It maybe that we will have to retain the blue/orange setup for "normal" mode and have the modded for "night" mode, unless you use split in normal mode.

To Do

1: fix (if possible) the widescreen colour set problem (I'm not sure this is doable though).
2: Select a new darker sky that will fit with both night and day,
3: Roll all the mods together and test.

All the pics above are still in testing so, when I'm happy that it's working OK I'll post up a link to a modded image.

It's possible that the mk3 can be also modded, I have a test image (for both 3-1/63 and 3-1/64), if you want to test this image then please do so but remember it's at your own risk, I would test it but I have no mk3 to try it on.

The colour scheme (colour set 2) will still be brown but the map "should" be the same as above, If you do test it out please let me know (via PM) if it's working.

PM me if you are interested in testing the mk3 image.

Hopefully I'll have something that is ready by the end of the week.

I'll keep you posted.

P.S I don't live on the computer, so don't expect an immediate reply.
