It's called the BMW Boardmonitor radio module. Here's one example, although this is a 2003 so it doesn't support Sirius -

As for whether you can use this with a MkIII, I'm not completely sure about that. I seem to recall that Parag from AdvancedAutovations got Sirius working with his MkIII, but I don't know the specifics.
