Thanks for the responses. For the MAF replacement, do you recommend trying to clean the MAF first and then seeing if this solves the issue?

Some people I have seen recommend:
CRC Mass Air Flow Sensor Cleaner spray

Also, is the MAF a common weak point in 2002 X5 3.0i's?
