I also find 3D view with splitscreen the most useful. The lack of street names doesn't really bother me since I typically don't have the time to read the street names to determine when to turn...by then it's usually too late. I tend to look at the map to determine if it's directing me to take the next turn or turn in 2 streets, etc. On the few occasions when I need to understand the street to turn on...it's displayed on the right side of split view. Like folks are saying...it's an individual choice thing.
