Towing a car with an X5 3.0?

Hi there-

This is my first post here. I apologize if this has already been covered in detail here, but the search function is not currently working for me for some reason.

In any case, I am interested in getting info on towing a car with an X5. We are currently shopping for a dual purpose daily driver/tow vehicle for my race car... I have an E30 that is around 2600 lbs or so that I will be towing on an open steel trailer... I was wondering if an X5 3.0 would serve as an adequate tow vehicle for this car. The trailer I would be pulling would most likely weigh in the neighborhood of 1500-1800 lbs. I know this fits into the tow capacity ratings for a 3.0, but I had some other questions:

-Should I only consider an X5 fitted with the factory tow package?

-Does the factory tow package already have provisions for connections to trailer brakes, etc?

-What trailer brake config would you recommend?

-Are the brakes/suspension on a 3.0 up to the task of towing a car?

Any other info I can gleen from y'all would be greatly appreciated! I was also considering an '05 or newer Pathfinder for the job, but we'd prefer to have an X5.

Thanks in advance-
