Isn't it unfortunate that brakes systems are still problematic even though disk brakes have been common for over 50 friggin years.

1. Brakes are still undersized on many vehicles, evidently to save $2 a car.

2. Rotors still rust and look terrible, even though they are displayed through big wheels.

3. Some designs required taking apart a whole bunch of stuff just to replace the brakes.

4. Brake dust is a real nuisance and could it be a health hazard? Would, say, a dishwasher manufacturer design one that left soap residue all over the exterior after every use? How stupid, and how inconsiderate. Again, it probably saves them a few cents in pad material costs.

5. Brakes weigh a ton. Man, are they heavy. Performance, gas mileage, braking, ride and handling, etc all suffer. You would think they would have done whatever R&D it takes to deal with all this.

Oh, sorry, I forgot: it is a profit center for them. Actually, a service manager told me he was worried about the new hybrids they were getting because their regenerative brake systems supposedly did away with routine brake work and that was a huge part of their business and bonuses.

End O' rant.
