Does the rest of the radio work besides the GPS portion? Or is the screen totally dead? I'm assuming you've checked the fuses...

I've seen a DVD drive get shorted out before with a dead battery... If you have a friend with Nav in his BMW, try borrowing his MKIV drive... You can pop the drive out with the ford radio removal tools (available at any auto parts store)...
