Unit is MKIV with 4-1/12 software.
4-1/12 was the very first software version ever released, in November 2002

There have been 8 or 9 updates since then, which seem to have never touched your nav

Current version is 4-1/100
(It's a loooong way from 12 to 100...!!)

The fact that your nav cannot read a map may be due to old software and new map, so the very first step is a software upgrade.
You'll need a V31 or V32 disk, the $15 deal from the Dealer is a cheap way to get an original disc.

The other advantage of the software upgrade is new features such as 3D view and improved graphics.

If the nav still struggles to read a map disc, then the laser may be old / weak / dead.
In this case a new laser is required (requires electronic skills to replace) or a new DVD-drive mechanism (very easy to replace)

Remember: the image file you download has to be used to create a CD using an image burner.
You cannot simply copy the ISO image file to a CD.

I use ImgBurn from The Official ImgBurn Website - it is free and very good.

All the OS versions can be found here:
