I saw a program about these hornets and they can definitely do this to the European bees since these bees are not familiar with Hornets and how to fight them. The native bees can fight and kill the hornets. The key is not fighting outside, but let the hornets get inside the colony and swarm on top of them. The hornets body temp will rise and eventually die.
