as far as i can remember when i tried to connect the GT1 head the very first time, it was communicating properly in fact i was able to run my first diagnose session but it didn't allowed me to continue because of a low voltage issue. i didn't changed anything on my machine which is running XP. Also i think i came to a point where i've updated the head using SSS but did not complete the process though.
