The blue screen is the screen generated by the TV tuner, and this only apears when the nav has crashed, or when no nav is fitted.

To check the nav software version, look at the top right hand corner of the Settings screen.

The last version ever made for the Mk3 is 3-1/63 -- there is no newer version

As for the map disc, if you want a newer map disc you must buy one. Visit your BMW dealer to obtain the newest map disc.
Remember: the Mk3 can only read CDs, it cannot read DVDs.
