Okay...I'm kinda embarrased now...

I had a really hard time accepting that a simple laser change should wreak such havoc on the car's electrical systems....so I once more had a look in the fuse box, arming myself with my trusty multimeter.

Then I noticed fuse number 7 is missing....put in a new 5 amp...and lo and behold.....
Everything is okay. Brake lights work normally, SMG light is gone, and MFL is working. I just can't believe I missed that.

Got an airbag warning light, which I cleared with Ediabas, and now I'm happy

Stupid mistake....must have lost it when I started to pull fuses...but I'm really glad it worked itself out.
