I use a "floating/maintenance" type charger: Battery Tender. I have
used it, via an appliance timer, for weekly charging, for 5 months at
a time, while away. Our '01 3.0 has fired right up with zero ill effects.

Not humping Battery Tender brand, but I would rec'd any brand of
floating/maintaining unit as opposed to a high amp charger/"hot shot"...

Meanwhile, why not use the battery connection bolt points under the
hood, (bonnet)? Easy to attach alligator leads there and one can
close the hood. Easy on/easy off, no moving parts around.

If you need pics of my set up, post and I'll dig out the pics and thread
from history.

I also use my "Tender" to keep that X, my Vette, and 3 motorcycles
charged, in rotation, as none of them get driven on a daily basis...
never an ill effect. My Tender is almost 20 yrs old and runs fine;
the newer models and brands are even better, I suspect.
