Awesome plan and you'll love the X5. Not quite as comfy as a 7 or s-class for long drives but IMO way more fun to drive, especially given you're in a 4.6! Obviously no comparison to the big GM truck.

Also you'll find the X tows like a champ. I only have the little 3.0 but it tows wonderfully. If you do some searching many have towed right up to the 6000lb rating of the X5 with no problems and quite a pleasant surprise at how well it does. I have a "Snow Bear" utility trailer that is awesome for utility stuff. It has metal rails along all f sides to contain stuff but also allows for them to lay down for larger items on the trailer. We typically tow about 2500lbs of ATV's and it's a breeze even with the I6 motor.
