Off the line, the 35d beats the 4.8 - up to about 50MPH. After that, the 4.8 will perform like any other gasoline engine and move faster than a diesel since the max torque on a diesel is at lower RPMs and, conversely, at higher RPMs for a gasoline engine.
Personally, the "fun factor" and "useful range" is at lower speeds (i.e. up to 50MHP), so the slower acceleration at higher speeds doesn't bother me.
