amacman is on a distinguished road
it was pitch dark , ants and spiders were crawling up my trousers , my hands were covered in grease , i was tired , whilst doing the repair i had thought about taking pics to post on forum but see previous excuses as to why i just wanted to get it over with .
i had to use pliers to push the needle through rubber , be very carefull if attempting this as i broke one needle . the patches cover the stitching for strength and to stop grease leaking .
and the repair is still good after 2000 miles , i just don`t feel so good after driving over 1000 miles non stop except for a quick detour to Le Mans circuit at dusk in the pissin rain then a quick sightseeing drive around London at 6am , i wish i had taken the 740i cos it drives real comfy .
the photo of the hole in the boot was taken just before the french mechanic got let loose on my X5 , i even gave him a 20ml syringe to inject grease into boot but i saw him going in with a big grease gun then a large tube of black rubber compound as used in the body shop .
i checked his repair when i got back to the house , that`s when i saw the split was now 5 times bigger than before and had rubber compound along both sides of split so i figured he must have split it more with the grease gun.
lesson learned is that i should have stitched the hole myself first then got a repair patch . i tried to get bmw dealer to replace boot cos it would have cost 280 euro but they were busy for 10 days so i ordered parts to be delivered to me but that took 7 days and my patch was holding so i just kept driving it with the patch .
