See if the Nikon D40 with the two lens kit, Nikon bag and a 7" LCD picture frame deal is available. A friend of mine picked all of these up for $550 or so at Ritz Camera. Its more than a camera (better than point and shoot) and ok lenses. Like someone else mentioned above, it is mostly about lenses when dealing with SLRs so once you are comfortable with a DSLR, you would want better lens.
