Yep this is the symptom.. I was fooling around putting some led indicators in the rear turning lights and had this happen and thought I'd shorted something.... you'll notice that when you restart the car the clock is reset and the radio is on mute... it also won't power up the idrive screen when you insert the key only when you start the car...
