Adopting is very admirable.. But dogs that are bred need homes too.

I would say, adopting is for the pet owner that wants a dog and is very flexible about the pet they want.

Buying a bred dog is for the owner that is very specific about what they want in a dog. They can meet the sire/dam and find out temperament, life expectations, lineage, etc.

When I was getting my dogs, I needed a dog that was hypo allergenic. I also wanted a dog that didn't shed (same thing as hypo allergenic..).. I wanted a medium sized dog that was smart and had a family temperament..

In other words, I was specific about what I wanted so my breed search started with those requirements. I was even specific about gender and coat type.

Neither is a right or wrong way to get a dog. You have to go with what speaks to you. I love pound puppies but didn't want the question of what their behavior was going to be like, their size, their health, etc.. So for me, going to a breeder was the only decision.

And don't let people who adopt dogs convince you that the only admirable thing to do is adopt a shelter dog. That might be right for them.. Doesn't mean it's right for you.

If you do decide on a breed and know what breed you want.. You can always call the breed club or go the breed website and find a referral for a reputable dog breeder near you.

The only suggestion I do strongly make is, stay away from puppy mills and mall type retail dog stores...

If you want any help, I'm happy to oblige.
