The airbag opens up if the steeringwheel is in the up position. If you look really close at the airbag...you can see the perferrated edged near the top of the airbag cover. My steering wheel is forced about 90% from center and I had burns on my wrist and right thigh. The burns were very bad..but healed up in less than a month.
