Hmmm, using one illegal activity to rationalize another. Seems like an obvious logical fallacy to me. Yes, I have exceeded the speed limit myself. Guilty. Last ticket was five years ago, I deserved the ticket, and there it is.
But isn't this justification a little bit like not wearing your seatbelt, or not using turn signals, or not using your lights when driving at night, or texting while driving, with any or all of the above committed while speeding? After all, if you are speeding anyway, why does it matter if you are doing other illegal or unsafe activities? The logic sort of falls apart at this point.
