Possible, it did go flat a couple of times from lack of use. I use battery tenders and also made sure that the OEM battery was charged up after installing the new alternator and everything seemed okay afterwards.

they can do is beat you on a new battery.
Fwiw, any/every new battery is already weak when
one buys it; if you do get one, a trip home is not
the way to get it up to full snuff, imo. An overnight
low amp "trickle-type" charge is, imo.

Unfortunately out of warranty. I also made sure to charge up the new battery (got a green light from my Deltran Bettery tender after a quick overnight charge --I use quick-connects on all my cars so I just plugged it in when I got home)
