I second that, especially since you're in a cold climate. Just look for the telltale signs of cheese whiz under your oil cap when the temps start to drop, that's usually a good indicator of things gunking up.
Other than that, the torn front CV boots seem to plague every X5 so inspect those for sure. With winter coming, just carry a small tool kit, garbage bag, and duct tape (in case one of the crap window regulators decides to pop during a rainstorm)
