My $.02 of free legal advice is the same as you got above. Go alone, be apologetic, admit to being in the wrong, and flaunt your clean driving record. Blaming the cop won't work, even if he did contribute somewhat to making it a closer call than it should have been. The operative word here is 'contribute' and in a contributory negligence case, you kinda figure out how much of a part each party played, and assess damages accordingly. Breaking the double yellow and passing in a no passing zone is what, 85% of the problem here? 90%? I dunno. So I would eat some crow, bring your checkbook, and throw yourself upon the mercy of the court (and your insurance company).
Glad no one was hurt!
