Ok, this same drive in the back, can be used for 2 different things:

- It can be used to download a new software version (new interface, different fucntionalities, etc...) and this is done once whenever you want to update your current version. There are plenty of threads about the different NAV systems and their versions...

- In normal operation, there should be a a CD/DVD (Depending on MK you have, again, many threads to check which one you have). This CD/DVD has the maps of teh country/state you are in. For example, when i got my X, it had the california CD (precious owner state)... I asked BMW Lebanon about having a CD with Lebanon maps to put it instead, but they said that BMW did not develop the maps for Lebanon... I tried to create a CD with the maps encrypted like BMW encryption, but all people in the field told me it's not achievable.. so I ended up purchasing a NUVI205 with the Lebanese maps and points of interests, and it's fantastic!
