A NICE one COULD be had for about $30K. I am a picky buyer...I like a 30K mile vehicle to look almost new.

I found many for sale (asking) in the high 20's, but they were far from perfect with no warranty.

A CPO 2006 4.4 is going for mid 30's with low mileage. This is a loaded model with NAV.

Example...I bought the cheapest low mileage 05 4.8is in the country (Autotrader, Cars.com, BMW, etc) at $29,000 with no warranty...Got it home...Come to find out after air bag suspension problems, thrust bushings, tires, etc. I would have over $32K into it...With no warranty. So it is going back to the owner.

Just spent $39K today for a 2006 4.8is 37K mile CPO's car (11 / 2012 out) in PERFECT condition. New tires, etc. Turn-key with no worries. Bought from BMW.

I was dealing with a broker and was looking at the auction prices from the last few weeks on 4.8is models...05-06 were SELLING at auction for $32-$36. These again were low mileage examples...AND with NO CPO. Then I would have to add shipping, warranty, etc. Now near $40K. Thus my purchase at $39K.

Just for kicks I looked up 2007 4.8i models LOADED with low mileage. $43-$45K+ SELLING at the auctions. Too much for me.

So...Not exactly sure what the 4.4i models were SELLING at auction, but I am SURE what the 4.8is models have been selling at.

You made a good choice, but $31K would not have been bad either since you knew the car well, it was taken care of, etc.

My .02 worth anyway since I just went through purchasing!
Thanks for sharing your experience.
It sounds like you landed a great deal

I found a local broker who will search a car and then take you to the auction to check it out and purchase. The problem I have with auctions... dealers often dispose of problem cars at auction.
The broker said there was a guarantee...did not get the details about how that worked.

Yes buying my car, that had no issues, would have been the best option but not at $31K, no CPO and no special financing deals from BMW.
