simple fix if it works
Hey folks, I wanted to post this because I kinda discovered by accident. I had taken my wifes 03 X5 into dealership for service. I don't drive it much but I did not notice when I picked it up I hit my memory setting and for some reason the driver side mirror did not set to my settings so I had to set it manually. A few days later my wife told me the driver mirror was loose and would move while driving or even sitting still on a very windy day. I searched the forums and found what I thought would be an easy fix. I took the little round plastic cover plate off from under the mirror and tightened the 4 torx (not 3) screws but it was still loose. I contacted the dealer for some insight and hoped they would fess up that something happend to it while it was in their care but still have not heard from them.
I returned to the forums and found one guy in another forum said he experienced a similar thing. He used the switch to bring the mirrors all the way in and it returned to normal. So I had the wife put the key in the ignition with her memory setting, hit the mirror switch and the mirrors folded in against the window and then reset themselves. Now mirror is tight again. I hope it remains this way. It was an easy and cheap fix (because I happened to break the little clip on the round cover plate so I will have to replace this little cover) but anybody ever experience this? What gives?
